Cycling Events, Races and Urban Cycling Workshop

The American River Resort is proud to offer its venue for Urban and Rural Bicycling Workshops to anyone wanting to improve their riding skills, gain confidence in an urban environment or for children to gain the skills needed for adulthood. Whether you’ve never been on a bike before or you just want to brush up with some tips for riding in the city, we’ve got an appropriate venue to get you rolling! If you or your organization offers cycling workshops, then you must consider our resort as a venue. It’s the perfect mix of small town road with an urban and rural feel. Not to mention the fresh air and chance to unwind in nature.

You’re never too old to learn to bicycle and attending or hosting a cycling workshop is a perfect way to spend the weekend! Urban Cycling Workshop instructors work one-on-one to teach the basics of balancing, starting, stopping and steering a bike, as well as proper helmet fit and adjustment. Most people learn to ride their bike in a city while taking the class, but even if you don’t, you will leave with tips to continue to ride safely and with confidence in an urban environment.

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is one of the organizations helping the current and next generation learn to ride confidently and comfortably on two wheels at the Freedom From Training Wheels Family Workshops across the city. If you are looking to get comfortable riding in San Francisco, then join them for a two-hour course covering all you need to know for biking in your urban community and the Bay Area. They offer the perfect class for anyone already riding to hone their skills, or people interested in riding but intimidated by urban traffic. Their comprehensive courses utilize the curriculum of the League of American Bicyclists and completion of this classroom session will allow you to take part in a future On-Road class.

Want to start biking with your kiddo? That’s great! The Bicycle Coalition also teaches family biking classes that cover everything from biking while pregnant to biking your child to school. Biking with your family allows you to spend more quality, healthy time together.

The American River Resort plays host to several annual cycling events. The Resort is located 20 minutes from Auburn, which is an annual destination for the Tour of California cycling race.

Tour of California

The Amgen Tour of California is designed to cover a variety of terrain, allowing different types of specialists among the field of the world’s greatest cyclists to shine throughout the week. Highlights of the men’s race will include the Queen Stage from Ventura to the summit of Gibraltar Road in Santa Barbara County, a challenging mountain stage with an uphill finish at 6,500 feet elevation on day six, and the highly anticipated sprinter showdowns the race has become known for on many stages. Similar to 2017, the women’s overall will be contested on the high-altitude Queen Stage in South Lake Tahoe which features one of the biggest climbs in the UCI Women’s WorldTour, while the speedy sprinters will find their opportunities on the first and last stages of the race.
